Alexander County is developing a pedestrian and bicycle plan, called “Walk & Bike Alexander County.” The county has established a steering committee to help guide the project. One of the first steps is gathering public input through a brief survey, which is available at https://publicinput.com/walk-bike-alexander-county.
“The public’s feedback is invaluable as the county strives to create safer, more accessible, and enjoyable walking and biking experiences for everyone in the community,” said Patrick Creech, Alexander County Senior Planner. “We appreciate everyone’s input as we work together to create a more connected future for people who walk, bike, ride transit, and use mobility aids. Whether you walk to school, bike for fun, or want additional ways to get around, your voice matters.”
This brief survey will help the county understand how you currently travel, where you face challenges, and what improvements you’d like to see.
“Walk & Bike Alexander County” is a planning study that will:
• Assess current walking, biking, and transit conditions.
• Recommend projects and programs to improve safety, access, and connectivity.
• Prioritize future sidewalks, greenways, and transit options.
Alexander County has a small (growing) network of sidewalks, especially in Taylorsville and along corridors like NC 16 and NC 90, as well as some new connections in Bethlehem. Outdoor areas like Rocky Face Mountain Recreational Area and Wittenburg Access Area provide additional recreational destinations. The plan will build on these strengths to create a safer, more connected transportation network.
The purpose of this survey is to collect the public’s thoughts about walking, bicycling, and using transit in Alexander County. Input will help prioritize a list of recommended sidewalks, greenways, bike lanes, and transit-related projects. The survey, which will be available through mid-July 2025, is for everyone who lives in, works in, or visits Alexander County.
“Your input will be used to create ‘Walk & Bike Alexander County.’ Once the plan is adopted, Alexander County and NCDOT can use it to guide how we design and build projects, shape policy decisions, develop programs and events, and apply for new types of funding to improve mobility across the county,” said Creech.
