Grand Marshal
Herman retired from the Alexander County Public Works & Facilities Department in September after 20 years of service. His handyman skills, quick wit, and laughter have endeared him to many over the years. In retirement, he stays busy at his sawmill and on his farm. He is also a longtime member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.
One Grand Marshal nomination letter reads, “He maintains a positive can-do attitude through almost anything, and he never seems to mind being bothered with other people’s troubles. I have heard him say that God gave him his abilities so that he can help people, and that is what he is going to do. George is a most uncommon individual who deserves every good thing that ever happens to him.”
Another nomination letter reads, “He has a heart for helping others, especially if they are in a hard spot in life. He has been a true definition of someone you can count on. George is a very humble man. He would never consider getting recognized for any of the contributions he has made. Considering George’s character, I could not think of a better person who is more fitting for the role of Grand Marshal.”
