The grand opening of the new Wittenburg Access Area Swim Beach was held on Friday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m. Alexander County Commissioners and Duke Energy officials offered remarks to officially open the new swim beach and associated amenities.
The revamped Wittenburg Access Area, located at 175 Wildlife Access Road in Bethlehem, now features a swim beach, outdoor showers, a changing area, restrooms, concessions, a park office, picnic shelters, a fishing pier, boat access, nature trail, and more.
The new swim beach officially opened on Tuesday, May 21. The beach area will be open six days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (closed on Wednesdays for maintenance) from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year.
A park attendant will be on duty with concessions available, including drinks, snacks, prewrapped sandwiches, and more. No lifeguard will be on duty.
The Wittenburg Access Area is owned by Duke Energy. In 2019, Alexander County leased the property for 40 years.
