The Alexander County Department of Social Services will begin accepting applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) on December 1, 2024.
Individuals who are age 60 and older, or disabled and receiving services through DAAS (Department of Aging & Adult Services), are eligible to apply. If you received the automatic LIEAP payment last year, you will not need to apply. Letters were mailed on November 26 to inform individuals who will receive automatic payments.
All other households must wait until January 1, 2025, to apply for LIEAP.
Energy payments will be paid directly to the heating provider.
Applications can be completed online, by mail, on the phone, or by drop off. Verification of income is required. Individuals who have earned income will need to provide their prior month check stubs.
Applications will be accepted through March 31, 2025, or until the funds run out.
