On Monday evening, November 24, Alexander County first responders were dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 351 Old Mountain Road in the Hiddenite community. The call was received by Alexander County 911 at 6:26 p.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of Hiddenite, Taylorsville, and Stony Point fire departments.
The first arriving units reached the scene in under three minutes and found a working fire inside a pallet manufacturing facility. Fire crews encountered heavy fire conditions on two floors of the structure and quickly requested additional departments for manpower and suppression support.
Because of the fire load and the size of the facility, crews conducted extensive suppression and overhaul operations. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately six hours to fully extinguish hot spots.
Old Mountain Road between NC-90 and US-64 was closed throughout the incident for the safety of the responders and to maintain an effective water supply.
