The NC State Board of Elections met on August 20, 2024, to consider a petition from the Alexander County Board of Elections for a modification of the early voting plan for the 2024 general election. The modified plan moves early voting from the Alexander Senior Center to the CVCC Alexander Applied Technologies Center.
The CVCC Alexander Applied Technologies Center will only serve as an early voting location during the early voting period. The Alexander Senior Center will remain serving as the election day assigned voting place for Taylorsville 1, 4, & 5 precincts, which is Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
“Elections and voting would not be possible without the election workers and facilities to serve as voting places. We are grateful to the members of our community that step up to serve and help their fellow citizens vote,” said Patrick Wike, Alexander County Elections Director. “We are also indebted to all the facilities that open their doors to serve as early voting or election day voting places and keep our democracy alive.”
During the early voting period from October 17 until November 2, Alexander County voters may cast a ballot at any of the three early voting sites, and would-be voters may same-day register and vote. This is different than election day, where registered voters must vote at their assigned precinct voting place. Same-day registration is only available during the early voting period and is not available on election day.
Early voting provides an all-purpose solution for voters seeking to:
• Avoid potential delays on election day
• Vote on convenient days and during non-working hours
• Same-day register if not registered to vote
• Avoid any registration conflict that could trigger the necessity of a provisional ballot on election day
• Update their voter record if they have moved within the county since last voting
