UPDATE, 6:00 pm: Closed roads include: Sulphur Springs (750 block and at Hill River Road), Berea Church Quincy Road (500 block), Ramie Mitchell Road (200 block), Cheatham Ford Road (1300 block), Rocky Face Church Road (1500 block), Macedonia Church Road (800 block), Hopewell Church Road (1100 block), and Millersville Road near Hwy. 16 South.
UPDATE, 5:45 pm: The search will end at approximately 6:00 p.m. tonight and will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13.
UPDATE, 4:00 pm: Rescue personnel have located another body at Hiddenite Family Campground, for a total of three deceased at that location. They continue to search for one adult and one child there, who are presumed missing. Swiftwater rescue teams evacuated 31 people from the campground. With the casualty from the automobile accident, the number of deceased totals four people.
3:00 pm: Rescue crews have recovered another body from the campgrounds, for a total of three deaths due to the flooding. Rescuers are still searching for two adults and one child.
2:00 pm: Alexander County experienced major flooding during the recent storm with approximately 7-10 inches of rain overnight. Approximately 50 roadways across the county have been compromised, with four bridges washed out.
Swiftwater rescue personnel had to evacuate 31 people from Hiddenite Family Campground. Sadly, there has been one confirmed death at the campground; however, their identity has not yet been released. Currently, there are three adults and one child who are presumed missing. The doors to the campers cannot be opened due to high water. Emergency personnel are continuing the search.
In addition, an automobile accident occurred on Hopewell Church Road in the Vashti community due to a bridge outage and high water. The car’s occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity has not been released.
Alexander County Emergency Services opened a storm shelter at East Taylorsville Baptist Church at approximately 7:00 a.m. for those affected by the flooding. There are currently 13 people in the shelter.
Citizens are advised to use extreme caution if they must drive, and to never drive through standing water.

Alexander County would like to express its appreciation to the many emergency agencies that assisted, including four swiftwater teams from Mooresville Fire Department, Sawmills Fire Department, Conover Fire Department, Alexander Rescue Squad & EMS, Alexander County CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), and our local volunteer fire departments.
11:20 am: A State of Emergency has been declared in Alexander County and the Town of Taylorsville, effective as of 8:00 a.m.
11:15 am: There are currently 305 homes without electricity in Alexander County.
10:50 am: There are currently 18 people in the emergency shelter at East Taylorsville Baptist Church. Red Cross and DSS representatives are on the scene assisting citizens.
10:40 am: Twenty-nine (29) people were rescued from Hiddenite Family Campground earlier this morning. Four people are presumed missing at this time. One (1) person is presumed missing from an automobile accident. Rescue efforts are continuing.
10:30 am: The bridge has been completely washed out at the 1300 block of Cheatham Ford Road.
10:00 am: Due to storm damage, Alexander Emergency Management currently has assessment in the field documenting damage and gathering photos. 9:45 am: Four (4) gates are fully open at Oxford Dam. Use extreme caution in the area.

9:00 am: Alexander County Government offices will be closed Thursday, November 12, due to flooding and road closures. Offices are scheduled to reopen on Friday, November 13 at 8:00 a.m.

Alexander County Emergency Services is in the process of opening a shelter for those affected by the flooding at East Taylorsville Baptist Church. The shelter should be established by 7:00 a.m.
In addition, Alexander County Government offices will operate on a two-hour delay.
