Description of Work: An employee in this class serves as assistant to the Director of Elections and is responsible for answering the telephone, taking and receiving messages, and greeting the public. Duties include processing voter registration cards, assisting with the preparation for elections, and providing general support to the Director and the office as needed. Position is responsible for coordinating and managing the Elections office in the absence of the Director. Work requires the employee to exercise sound judgment in working with the public and providing them with the proper information. This position requires knowledge of elections laws, and policies and procedures mandated and amended by the State. The employee is required to attend two to three training classes per year sponsored by the State Board of Elections and the School of Government; and may be required to work extended hours and on Saturdays during an election. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Elections, and is evaluated through conferences, observation, and the review work generated.
Education and Experience: Graduation from high school with demonstrated public contact, computer skills and clerical abilities is required. Completion of associate’s degree level classes or higher is preferred. Knowledge of election laws, along with policies and procedures of the election.
