POSITION: Building Code Enforcement Officer
SALARY RANGE: $40,365.41 – $57,035.27 (Grade 71)

Description of Work: An employee in this class inspects construction and installation work in process to enforce State codes for structures in the trade areas of building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical codes. Work involves frequent field inspections to handle complaints, fieldwork for zoning inspections, enforcing County ordinances and office support duties. Technical judgment is required to interpret provisions of the codes as applied to practical construction projects and circumstances. Inspections may require some physical effort and are performed under hazards present in dealing with construction work. The employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extremely hot and cold temperatures, loud noise and dust. Both the field and office areas require tact, courtesy, and firmness in dealing with contractors and the general public. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Department Head and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and the quality and effectiveness of work completed.
Education and Experience: Graduation from high school with considerable experience in construction, office related duties, and Level II standard certifications in all four trade areas are required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
