POSITION: Chief Building Code Enforcement Officer
HIRING RANGE: $54,287 to $62,957 (Grade 74)

Description of Work: An employee in this class supervises the field work of building inspectors and conducts inspections of the building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes for the County. Work involves management of field construction work to enforce State and Federal regulations for a building including all four trades. Work includes performing field inspections required to enforce a variety of ordinances. Technical judgment is required to interpret provisions of the codes as applied to construction projects and circumstances. Inspections may require some physical effort performed under hazards present in dealing with construction work in progress. The employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; extremely hot and cold temperatures; and can be also subject to noise and dust. Work requires independent judgment and initiative in complex issues that must meet professional standards, local ordinances, building standards, and North Carolina State codes. Work is performed under the general supervision of the department head and is evaluated through conference, reports, contractor and citizen reaction.
Education and Experience: NC Inspection Standard Level III certifications in the trade areas of building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical; and an associate degree with five years in trades or related construction inspection experience, including supervisory, are required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicant must possess a valid NC driver’s license.
